Queen Sophia’s Diamond Tiara

History: This tiara was first seen on Queen Sophie, previously known as Princess Sophie of Prussia on her wedding to Constantine I of Greece in 1889. The tiara was later inherited by Queen Sophia’s daughter-in-law, Queen Frederika after she had died in 1932. The tiara was then never seen for over four decades, allowing many “royal watchers” to question its ownership. Many argued that the tiara had been sold after the Greek Royal Family was deposed due to it not being seen on Queen Anne-Marie. However in 2012, the tiara was seen on Crown Princess Marie-Chantal at Queen Margrethe II’s Ruby Jubilee, putting some of the rumours too rest.

Provenance

  • Queen Sophia of Greece (1889)
  • Queen Frederika (1932)
  • Crown Princess Marie-Chantal (??)

Notable Apparences

  • Princess Marie-Chantal to Queen Margrethe II’s Ruby Jubilee (2012)

(Thanks to various royal blogs for the info: The Royal Order of Sartorial Splendor, Mad Hattery, and Tiara Mania, among others.  I have tried to do my best research; hopefully there are no errors.)
